2016 Olympics : Chicago Bids with Stupid Slogan
66
Slogan Makes Chicagoans Look Like Idiots
If "Stir the Soul" wasn't vague or cheesy enough, Chicago's desperate attempts to earn the bid for the 2016 Olympic Games has moved officials to change the bid slogan to "Let Friendship Shine", an even WORSE slogan. I wonder how much we are paying these idiots to come up with these stupid slogans.
Please don't judge ALL Chicagoans on a select few marketing "tools".
Olympic Slogans Past
2008 Beijing, China: "One World, One Dream"
2006 Turin, Italy: "Passion Lives Here"
2004 Athens: "Welcome Home"
2002 Salt Lake City: "Light the Fire Within"
2000 Sydney, Australia: "Share the Spirit"
Chicago's Slogan Won't Beat these Competitors'
Madrid, Spain: "Games with the Human Touch"
Rio De Janeiro, Mexico: "Live Your Passion"
Tokyo, Japan: "Uniting Our Worlds"
President Obama
Chicago's most recent "claim to fame" comes in the form of Chicago native, President Obama. Will this be enough clout to win the bid?
The Cost to Chicagoans
If we are chosen to host the 2016 Olympiad, it will not come without many sacrifies from our city and suburbs.
Tax money is currently being used to displace apartments and homeowners near the stadium site and to "spruce up" the city before the International Olympic Commitee arrives on April 2nd.
Yes, displaced renters and homeowners in areas downtown where the stadium will be built.
The City of Chicago is promising substantial job growth and tourist traffic up to and during the Olympic Games if we are chosen to host.
At what cost? Within only a few years time, Chicago has placed a former Governor in jail and the present Governor was just caught selling President Obama's seat in the Senate to the highest bidder and grossly misusing taxpayer money.
Please don't think we are all cheats, just because we call Illinois our home.
...Waiting....
I really hope this bid is worth the trouble! We will see after the Olympic Committee visits on April 2, 2009.
I will update this hub when I get the news!

The logo is better than London 2012! I haven't heard what our slogan is yet, or if I have it was so bad I've forgotten :>)
Cheers

There must be something about Olympic bids and also hosting the Olympics that brings out the 'stupid'. What is that slogan supposed to mean?
Meanwhile in London, the mascots have been unveiled - and they are very stupid-looking.
This hub made us laugh, in a very black-humoured way.

"One world one dream" is farcical actually. I'm Chinese American, but I don't approve of many of the things that the Chinese do, especially forcing people to believe that "China will be the first to rebound" from the economic crisis or even that China was never involved in the GLOBAL financial crisis in the first place. OK, here's the thing. If the GLOBAL financial crisis doesn't affect, why is it "global"? Is China not part of the globe?
